What is Bharatanatyam? - It is the oldest of all classical dance forms in India and is known to be a - A dance of mind & soul  - very traditional and famous for its grace, purity, tenderness, statuesque & sculpturesque poses. It uplifts the dancer (who is considered as a worshiper- worshiper of the Divine) and the beholder to a higher level of spiritual consciousness. Learning this dance also helps you improve your concentration, reduces stress and is also a great exercise.

The main instructor Sheetal Menon has been performing Bharatnatyam since 20 years now. Her passion for dance from early childhood has made her blossom into a graceful dancer and has proved herself many times at festivals like 'Malhar' and not once but thrice at the University level festivals and has done proud to her guru (The Teacher - Mrs. Rajeshwari Damania). Sheetal obtained her dance degree from the most renowned dance Institute of India - The Nalanda University of Dance and Art (Mumbai, India). And not only on Nritta (pure dance), but she has amazing command on her Nritya (facial expression) that creates Rasa in all the Rasik (the audience) whom she entertains. She completed her Arangetram in 2002.

What is Arangetram? - The Dance Academy of Journey Of India in Winnetka/ Canoga Park, Los Angeles helps students to learn Bharatanatyam from a basic or intermediate level to a level of total mastery. It helps you complete your Arangetram and also facilitates for you to participate in various cultural dance events and performances on different stages all around Los Angeles. ('Arang' is stage and 'Atram' is entry - The first entry on the stage of the disciple artist and an occasion for giving a grateful gift to the Kalaguru is Arangetram. It marks the completion of the dance training and blossoming of the dance into a full-fledged art exponent.)
